Original WWII fighting knife, Third Pattern, ENGLAND marked on crossguard, no broad arrow. Domed brass pommel nut. Taper ground drop forged blade has original bluing and has been sharpened in service. Clearly used in the field as the tip has been broken off and reground so that overall blade length is 5 ½ inches. Marking is the subject of some controversy in the collecting community but it is generally felt that the electric pencil serial number from 0 - 2000 indicates a bayonet from this lot. This specimen has deep, heavy handed electric penciled serial number indicative of military application. Number is 883.
